" Now I want you to sign this statement , Calvin. it jsut says what we just agreed to here. It says you ain't the shooter. By the way, that's good for you. that's real goodfor you. It says that you was with somebody that could be Little Reggie. It says that you knew this guy had the gun and that you knew he was gonna shoot them women. It says that you wanted us to believe that Reggie is that shooter and you aren't. Its says you hid the gun after the fact. . . " (AlfredoVea, p.69)
The importance of this passage is that its so unfair. Inspector Normandie litterally forced Calvin into answering what he did. he blamed Calvin , and confused him stateing he wasnt the shooter then later arguing that he was. Perhaps to confuse the scared young men.
seems as if Normandie was taking advantage of his power and Calvin's illiteracy to get the reponses he wanted .
Why does Normandie repeat to Calvin that he knows he isn't the shooter, he does it as to try and convince Calvin that is isnt the shooter, or is he trying to have Calvin confess otherwise?
Whats Normandies objective by pushing Calvin to his responses?
